Tonight the Fiance and I were having a nice leisurely conversation in the yard. Blue Moon with a slice of orange, gentle breeze, so relaxing. When the mosquitoes showed up we started to head back in. On the way into the house we had to pass our garbage spot which we share with two neighbors.
I stopped dead in my tracks and screamed.

Our neighbor had just put out his trash. He started hysterically laughing at me when I began babbling and flapping my arms about Dorothy Draper. I told him what it might be worth (fake versus real) and he said “Well, it’s yours now!”. Who am I to argue with a nice neighbor? I dragged that sucker into our place before the rain started. The unit beneath the drawers is a pressed wood sewing cabinet (in case you were wondering…). Tried to unload that on Craigslist for free, alas…no takers.
The dresser is likely fake, but even then still worth a good penny. I have always wanted an Espana!

It will need some work, one of the drawer fronts is totally off and some nitwit stuck nails in the middle drawer. The pulls are filthy and in desperate need of washers on the inside. The front of the “legs” is completely chipped free of lacquer. I couldn’t find a Heritage stamp on it, but the retailer’s sticker was still inside one of the drawers. Looks like that retailer went out of business in the mid-1960’s.

I asked my neighbor where he got it. He pulled it out of someone else’s trash a few years ago. Good Lord.

Aye yi yi! AMAZING. My neighbor here in Round Rock (Austin), Texas pulled a piece THAT MATCHES THIS ONE off the side of the road last week!!!! I’ll post a photo to show you soon. Unfortunatley, she painted it with Silver (not the gold shown) with the black. Missing two of the cool drawer pulls, we’re trying to figure out what to substitute with. ideas? Great find, my dear.

Bridie: She can contact Kindle Furniture and try to buy replacements or make plaster ones with a mold kit.

Good things come to those who scrounge. You didn’t even need to dumpster dive.
Can’t wait to see the end result, although I think it looks great already.

What a great find and no hand trucks or cars were needed! Isn’t it amazing what people throw out? In our neighborhood we put unwanted stuff on parking strips. I’ve gotten rid of some stuff that way and found neat things too. Saves a trip to Goodwill and you know the item is appreciated.

It doesn’t even matter if it is “real” or not because the story is good. Congratulations! I was thinking you needed a little something to do.

Wow. Trash FTW! Now that is a weekend score. Where’s it going to go after it gets beautified?

Now see I would have done the same thing and my husband would have snuck it back out to the trash after I fell asleep

its beyond amazing…I’m jealous. I wish my neighbor threw out fabulous stuff, but I live next to sci-fi geeks and party boys.

Reminds me of the old saying…One man’s trash is another (wo)man’s treasure! What a find! Regardless of what it is worth, the thrill of the find is priceless! Enjoy!

Good lord is right! You must not have a bunch of crazed women like us in your town that takes things and makes them over and puts them on blogs to show off! Free and no takers! Hard to believe!
