I bought a pattern for a bag on Etsy a few weeks (months?) back. It’s been sitting on my desk mocking me. I finally pulled it out tonight and selected some fabric to make the darn thing. Awesome red/pink ticking for the exterior and Laura Ashley for the interior. Both were remnants from Calico Corners.

I read the pattern instructions no less than 5 times. I made the Fiance read them too. I needed back up. Why must people be so vague with their directions? Why? Why? Why? Is it just me? Am I missing something? Makes for an intimidating/frustrating lesson when you have to guess what the designer intended. Grrr. Anyway, I got through it (mostly by looking at pictures on Flickr) and the bag isn’t too bad, if you stand back 4-5 feet.

I added pockets to the lining before inserting/attaching it.

One pocket for my cellphone, the other pocket for my…zucchini.

LOL!
Still giggling. It is a cute bag. Everyone needs a pocket for their zucchini.

If all purses came with zucchini pockets, I’m convinced that the world would be a better place. Love the fabric!

I thought it was a jaunty little halter top until I read the story. Happy New Year.

I’m gonna need deeper pockets – my zucchini is marrow-sized!

Is that a zucchini in your pocket or are you just…
Oh, never mind. It really is a zucchini.

I agree with NiftyButton!
And I think the bag is nifty, too. I hear you on sewing pattern directions — I can hardly interpret the ones that are marked “easy” or “novice” which often makes me feel like a moron. Glad to hear I’m not alone on the reading five times thing.

Or…maybe we’re both morons?? That would be tragic.

It’s awesome. Great first effort…
