Is it just me? I feel like I spend too much time trying to organize things. I know this is normal – especially now. Every January everyone wants to start the year off fresh. That said, I feel like I’m constantly organizing papers and bits and bots and cats. Too many projects and interests I suppose.
Yesterday I ducked into The Container Store and spent a small fortune on canvas baskets. Tonight I started sorting all my random crap precious items. I started with sewing notions & thread.

I was in a bit of a grumpy mood (long day at work) but instantly perked up when I started playing with the thread. There’s one spool in there from Coats & Clark that makes me especially happy. It’s a dark maroon and it’s on a smooth wooden spool. Bliss. Wish all my thread was on wooden spools.
Moving along…next up was a ribbon & trim basket. Oodles of goodness in there!

I also started a basket of gifts. Pretty stationery, books, etc. I’ve picked up with the intention of gifting. Tucker decided he needed to give me a hand and he hopped into the cabinet. Both cats love that china cabinet. I have to make sure to securely close the doors or they get in there and knock everything around for sport.

It was around this time that I started filling 2 baskets with “random items”. Essentially things I felt like I couldn’t part with but didn’t want to look at. WTF?

I need to have a tag sale!

Omg, Tucker looks like he is playing office clerk! Too cute

I spy Two!

Tucker sure looks serious! I’ve been organizing/decluttering lately. Unwanted/saleable items are going in the “garage sale storage room”. The sale will be in May and I can hardly wait to a. make some money b. get that room emptied.

When is crafty crap swap meet night?!
January 6th, 2010 at 9:41 pm
I’ll work on it tomorrow. It’s on ‘the list’!

It’s not just you. I so need to get to it. My craft stuff is still all boxed up from the move. I’m afraid to look at it. Wanna come over and help? I bet you’d find lots of treasures to add to your collection!

I think the excess and sensory overload of Christmas (at least at my house) is what brings on the need to clear out and straighten up. My New Years resolution is to reduce the amount of stuff in our house by 50%. Yes, half.
Honestly, I think we wont even miss it. I am a die-hard yard sale and thrift store shopper. So while our house is clean and neat to any visitors eye, the closets and basement are brimming with neglected and forgotten good intentions. Plus my kids, who have my yard-sale blood, have picked up so many 25 cent toys and books when they go out yard-saling with me that they dont even remember what toys they have anymore. Before Christmas we went through their playroom with several big boxes to “make way for Santa” and to encourage giving to charity. They found so many forgotten toys, they actually said to me that it was as good as Christmas. THAT was an eye opener, and I immediately stopped Christmas shopping for them. They were right, they already had enough.
And I have this teeny little end-table and wreath addiction that really must be dealt with head on.

You’re definitely not alone. I haven’t been able to use my sewing room since we bought this house in September because the closet has no shelves and everything is piled all over my work tables. Every time I watch an episode of hoarders, I cringe, because that’s what my sewing room looks like right now. No dirty diapers, missing cats, or rotten food though, so that’s a positive thing

Michelle – HALF!? OMG. You’re my hero. Man, if I could hit 15% I’d be impressed.
Kiki – Are you in the NYC area? I’m hosting a craft swap at a local bar soon. I have bags of fabric, trim, buttons, etc. that I’m bringing (not that you want more…).
Bdaiss – See my note to Kiki above. Haul it to NYC for crafty beer night! LOL

Hi Two. Long time no see.
January 7th, 2010 at 3:39 pm
Sadly, I’m not in the NYC area
Have fun at your swap, though!

Tucker looks like that Office Manger who guards the key to the office supply cabinet with his life. Tape? You want tape?! Out of the goodness of my heart you may have one 1/4 inch piece of tape. Don’t waste it.
Is that GOSSAMER in that canvas bin?
January 7th, 2010 at 6:36 pm
Yup! Gossamer is my bouncer. He keeps Tucker in line (as much as he can…).

Thank you for sharing. I’m so glad to discover that someone else experiences bliss from playing with sewing notions
I love thread, ribbon, fabric! I also have some of the canvas baskets. So much better than the clear plastic containers – isn’t the whole purpose to get things OUT of sight?
