Flea Market Finds

Sidewalk Treasures!

I hopped out of bed this morning (at 10AM…) and headed out to an estate sale. Rang the bell 3 times. Nobody home. Grrr. I shook my fist at the sky! Hate when that happens. They must have canceled due to the Snowapocolypse (that hasn’t happened here). We got a light dusting of snow, that’s all. Oh well. What can you do? Walking back to the car I noticed that 4 doors down a house had tons of stuff out on the sidewalk. I rechecked the advertisement for the estate sale to see if I had the wrong address. Nope. Just a coincidence that a random neighbor was clearing stuff out too. I took a quick look-see…

Oh my. Vintage industrial-metal-base-wood-topped typewriter desk!?!?

Opened my backdoor and lobbed it on the backseat. What’s a little dusting of snow among friends?

Also among the pile was a complete set of mid-century wooden serving bowls, serving tongs and salad plates in a big plastic zippered blanket bag. Hello, gorgeous. Will get them cleaned up and photographed asap.

I’m a literary agent – I should put a beautiful vintage typewriter on top of the stand and put it in my office…but I don’t have a vintage typewriter. Go ahead, sigh. Table is all cleaned up and hanging in the kitchen holding the mixer I scored for $30 at the GoodWill and tins for now.

Love the metal stamp on the side!

Don’t know how I feel about using the wooden salad set that I picked up. Sure, it was sealed in a bag and I can scrub it like a MoFo…but it still weirds me out a little. I’m being ridiculous! LOL

Nice score. I swear, nobody leaves anything on the sidewalk in Marrakech. I once found something (broken) on the sidewalk in Rabat at midnight, and I was so shocked that I dragged it home on the train for 4 hours home like some kind of relic.

I have been to Marrakech and if there is anything on the sidewalk you would cross the street to be so far away from it – no chance of smelling anything. I can’t say I enjoyed the city – and the donkeys made me cry so badly treated. Anyway – lovely table!

Oh MY!!! This may be one of the top curbside scores ever. For reals. And dusting of snow? My arse shoveled for hours today. Grr.

I found my coveted chair with a dusting of snow on it. Wonder if there’s a way to superclean those bowls without hurting them… ultraviolet-light?

    A mixer! A mixer! It’s on my list :)
I was watching Emeril Friday….He was making chocolate cheesecake, and I was thinking “I need a mixer!”

I cleaned up wooden bowls I got at Goodwill for a historical gig. Scrub them like a MoFo and they’ll be OK to eat out of. For reals.
