Plantation Shutters

I Love Upstate

I tried to think of some kind of nifty post title for this like:

Shut Yer Face
Shuttering Across The Floor
Shuttering To Block Out The Light

but frankly…they all sucked and I worked till 8:30pm tonight because I had to pay for my sins of taking a FULL TWO HOURS off of work to go for my annual ob/gyn exam (super joy…). On the way to office (from the dreaded ob/gyn appt.) I stopped at Whole Foods to pick up some cold (ick) sushi and soup for lunch and who did I get stuck in the little roundy door thing with? LeeAnn Rhimes and her husband. She’s so cute even without makeup. Brat. Anyway…

I’m thinking about plantation shutters for the living room and dining room and maybe even the kitchen. I’ve always loved this style of shutter…which is kind of funny since I pretty much hate shutters in general. It’s just these, make me swoon-ish. But…

1. Assume they are expensive.
2. Having an old house that’s settled (a few times) my windows aren’t perfectly level so the shutters might not fit and/or be expensive to fit and/or look really wonky and tarded.
3. My windows are “double hung” so it might not look like I’d want it to look and I don’t want to do that thing where it’s the shutter ONLY along the bottom.

Here’s the new kitchen window…

and here’s the living room windows (there are 4 total) but you’ll have to look BEYOND the Christmas debris.

Thoughts?

Here’s a pic of a greek revival with shutters that I snapped back in Florida…

Now that I’m looking at it in closer detail, they have double hung and it looks like they have regular hanging wood (white) shutters. Hmmm. Maybe?

And here’s some shutter pics I borrowed off the net…

I just remembered that I never did that whole french restaurant red/yellow decor post that I was going to do post-Vegas. Oops.

And now…the Fiance is making me watch a terribly fantastic (or fantastically terrible) Martin Mull movie from the 80s called “Serial”. Laughing ourselves sick!!

Last but not least…thank you to everyone who has sent good thoughts & wishes for Tal. She’s eating again, albeit not as much as she should…but she’s eating and a bit peppier. Here’s hoping she lets me sleep tonight (she had me UP from 3-5AM last night with all kinds of meowing and complaining). She mastered the art of getting her mouth into my ear before letting loose with an enormous MEOWWWWWWWW while I was in a dead of sleep. She did it a few times before I just gave up on sleep and hung out with her on the couch.

The first thing that popped to my mind for a title was “Shutter to Think”

    Glad Tal is feeling better.

I think the Florida house looks like blinds, maybe.

I like the white shutter look, it’s clean and simple, but would suck to dust.

I’m part of the no shitter crowd – still need to feel mine off the house.
