Here’s a quick recap of my recent string of ebay heatbreaks…
See those groovy Dorothy Draper-ish dressers? My house had TWO OF THEM when I toured it. I tried to make the dressers part of the deal but the former owner wasn’t having it. Sigh. So out of my life they were carried. Since then I have been on the hunt – but it hasn’t happened. Whenever these dressers are listed as “Dorothy Draper” or “Hollywood Regency” or even “Espana” they sell for TOO MUCH. I haven’t quite figured out how to find the right search words to find one that the DD or HR hunters might overlook.
The red dresser is just beautiful and would be loads of fun in the kitchen and would be cool to store linens in but it’s too damn expensive. I was bidding on the set of black ones (second page) and I spazzed out in the LAST 16 SECONDS of the auction and someone out bid me by $4. FOUR FREAKIN’ DOLLARS. Sigh.
The tall lingerie chest with the faux bamboo trim? When we were in Orlando some woman had TWO OF THEM on Craigslist and she wanted like $50 for BOTH. I couldn’t figure out how to get them packed and shipped without it being cost-prohibitive. I really need to figure out the whole Greyhound furniture transportation thing. Anyway, this one is on ebay. It’s not as nice as the Orlando ones were and it’s much more expensive…for just one.
See that funky Alaska tablecloth? I’ve never been to Alaska but I love vintage tablecloths and I especially love when they are maps. So campy. So kitschy. So fun! I loved the colors on this one but alas, it was a bit too pricey.
The upholstered X bench. I want a set of them (who doesn’t?) but I was intrigued by the woolly tweed of this one. Alas, I was outbid.
Last but not least…that little model house that looks very similar to…MY HOUSE (the only difference, my door is to the right and my chimney is to the left). It’s a Gudgel Greek Revival model. I was outbid and now I’m kicking myself. I really should have bid much higher on it. I really regret losing that auction the most.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go find more furniture to beat myself up with. I’m also secretly hope that Priscilla finds some of these items for loads less. I’m telling you, that girl is the Perry Mason of furniture.

I think it’s pretty easy to find those Hollywood Regency type dressers in plain wood and paint them yourself to make them look fabulous. We had some really gross kitchen cabinets that we could’ve made look like that, but I forgot what we did with them.

Yeah, the Hollywood Regency thing on eBay is out of control, I think. I agree — enamel a garage sale Regency find and it’s fabulous.
Also, stop loving the kitschy map tablecloths. That’s my domain, and I don’t want to have to fight you on eBay!

Isn’t that what you told me to check and see if my dresser was? Still haven’t done it, but think about it when I toss laundry in the drawers…

Love that tall bamboo one – I think you should have tried a bit harder on the Florida deal. Or at least let ME know about it so I could have tried!

Check out the Orlando Craigslist – it might still be there. It was relisted a few times.
